In an eSprinter, lifting off the pedal often slows the van by turning the motor into a generator and recovering energy. The friction brakes do far less work than on a diesel van, so pads and rotors can last much longer.

The catch nobody warns you about

Brakes that rarely get used can corrode, especially rotors, and calipers can seize from disuse. In a coastal or damp climate this is worse, but even in Riverside a van that leans on regen needs its friction brakes inspected and exercised so they are ready when you truly need them.

We inspect the friction system, clean and service the calipers, and make sure the brakes still perform in a hard stop, since regen alone does not cover an emergency.
